What is the Cynosure Icon?

The Icon is an aesthetic platform equipped with two advanced light-based technologies to deliver safe, effective results in skin rejuvenation and hair reduction.

Icon laser treatments

A powerful non-ablative fractional laser concentrates energy into short, powerful pulses of light that heat up and break down damaged cells while stimulating elastin and collagen production.

This process removes cosmetic imperfections through the skin’s natural healing system, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Because the Icon targets only a portion of the skin at a time, the laser energy is precisely delivered to problem areas without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Icon IPL treatments

IPL therapy, sometimes called an IPL photofacial, employs high-energy pulses of broad-spectrum light to treat various skin concerns. A gentler solution for skin imperfections and unwanted hair, IPL treatments don’t require any downtime.

What Can the Cynosure Icon Treat?

The Icon laser system provides world-class facial and body skin rejuvenation. Cynosure Icon laser treatments have many benefits including:

  • Cleared facial veins and rosacea
  • Decreased appearance of leg veins and stretch marks
  • Diminished surgical and acne scars
  • Permanent hair reduction
  • Reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Revitalized skin

Why Choose the Icon for IPL and Laser Treatments?

Cynosure’s commitment to innovation and world-class technologies makes it a leader in the field of medical-grade laser products.

The Icon includes an advanced contact cooling system to increase your comfort and decrease the total number of treatments you’ll need. The first-of-its-kind Skintel melanin reader technology reads skin types and accordingly adjusts parameters for your skin tone, resulting in customized, highly safe treatments.

The dual-technology platform also allows providers to utilize multiple handpieces and treat different concerns during the same session.

For example, the popular ThreeForMe treatment uses both IPL and laser energy to address three major skin concerns–wrinkles, sun damage and facial veins–in a single session.

Other combinations are possible, too, such as using the MAXG handpiece to target vascular skin lesions and the Icon 1540 handpiece to address fine lines or dull skin.

Ideal Candidates

The Cynosure Icon laser system provides solutions for a myriad of issues. Ideal candidates are in good health and want to improve skin imperfections on their face or body.

The Icon can treat:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots
  • Broken capillaries
  • Brown spots
  • Discoloration
  • Dull skin
  • Facial veins
  • Fine lines
  • Melasma
  • Rosacea
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Spider veins
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Sun spots
  • Surgical scars
  • Unwanted hair
  • Wrinkles

While safe for most individuals, Cynosure Icon laser treatments are not recommended for anyone who is:

  • Epileptic
  • Taking photosensitizing medication
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

Before & Afters

What to Expect from Your Icon Treatment

Prior to your appointment, remove all oils, lotions or makeup from the treatment area. For hair reduction, avoid tweezing or waxing for at least two weeks before your session and shave 24 hours before your appointment.

Before your treatment begins, your laser technician will cleanse the affected area and may apply numbing cream to reduce discomfort.

Next, they’ll will guide a handheld device connected to the Icon machine over the treatment area. As the pulses of concentrated light make contact with your skin, you’ll experience a warm, stinging sensation. The procedure will take approximately 15–30 minutes.

Recovery and aftercare

Immediately following your appointment, you may experience redness, minor swelling or darkening of the skin. These side effects usually subside within 2–24 hours but may last for up to 4 days. Icon laser treatments require virtually no downtime: you may resume normal daily activities immediately.

In the days following your appointment, keep the area clean and moisturized and do use exfoliants, retinoids or perfumed creams. Avoid sun exposure for at least 48 hours; adding sunscreen to your daily skin care routine will prolong your results.

Cost of Icon Laser Treatments

On average, Icon laser treatment costs range from $1,500–$3,500. Several factors influence the cost of your Icon laser treatment including your location, number of treatments needed and the provider you choose.

Most clients with mild skin conditions see significant improvement or clearance after one session; moderate to severe issues may need multiple treatments.

Takeaway

The Cynosure Icon laser system offers customized treatments to address a wide range of skin conditions. This state-of-the-art laser technology boosts cell turnover and collagen production resulting in improved skin texture, tone and firmness.

Whether you are looking to reduce the appearance of unwanted fine lines, scars, stretch marks, veins or hyperpigmentation, Icon laser treatments can provide dramatic results with minimal discomfort and virtually no downtime.

FAQs

Is the Cynosure Icon laser safe?

The Cynosure Icon laser system has been clinically tested for safety and effectiveness. Icon laser treatments are safe for all skin types. Additionally, the Icon 1540 laser handpiece is the only FDA-approved laser for stretch mark or scar treatment.

How painful is the procedure?

Most patients report mild discomfort such as a warming or stinging sensation during the procedure, similar to a sunburn. Your laser technician may be able to apply numbing cream to the affected area prior to treatment to reduce irritation.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you will need depends on what condition is being treated. For general skin revitalization, one session can provide desirable results. For dark scars, deep stretch marks or hair removal, multiple sessions may be necessary.

Will Icon laser treatments fix sagging skin?

Icon laser treatments can firm and tighten skin, but are not recommended for individuals with large amounts of excess or sagging skin. Talk to your provider to discuss alternatives to skin resurfacing.

Can you have Icon laser treatments if you have active acne?

If you are experiencing active acne, it is recommended to work with a dermatologist to discuss treatment options before undergoing Icon laser treatments. Icon laser technology is better suited for treating acne scars.
